How Quests Work in PfPE
A complete guide to quests — the core mechanic of Play for Planet Earth. Learn how to find, complete, and earn rewards from climate action quests.
What Is a Quest?
A quest is a specific, actionable climate task you can complete in the real world. Quests range from simple daily habits to ambitious community challenges.
Types of Quests
Daily Quests
Small, repeatable actions you can do every day:
- Use a reusable cup
- Walk or cycle instead of driving
- Turn off unused electronics
Seasonal Challenges
Bigger quests tied to seasons or events:
- Spring tree-planting campaign
- Summer water conservation challenge
- Autumn food waste reduction month
Community Quests
Group challenges for schools, workplaces, or neighbourhoods:
- School-wide recycling competition
- Neighbourhood cleanup day
- Office energy reduction challenge
How Points Work
Every quest has a point value based on:
- Impact — How much environmental benefit it creates
- Effort — How much time and commitment is required
- Verification — Whether it can be objectively measured
Earning Badges
Badges recognise milestones and consistency:
- First Quest — Complete your first quest
- Week Warrior — Complete quests 7 days in a row
- Impact Leader — Save 100kg of CO₂
- Community Champion — Complete 5 group quests
Verification
We use a combination of methods to verify quest completions:
- Self-reporting with optional photo evidence
- Location-based check-ins
- Partner-verified completions (schools, councils)
- Smart verification (coming soon)
The goal is trust with transparency — making it easy to log actions while maintaining credibility.
